mieru_mienai: (I also have a story)
IC INFORMATION;
Characters Name: Yuugi Mutou
Age: 17
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh! (manga version)
Canon Point: Post-series
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: This will be relevant when he turns eighteen in June, so uh. He very much appreciates the ladies?? I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him falling in love with another guy but in regards to physical attraction he's pretty straight.

History: Link to his wiki page
Appearance: Here! And for color reference, here! It's a little ridiculous how hard it is to find pictures of him by himself, sorry.
Personality: Yuugi's defining personality trait is his altruism. Despite being from a world seemingly filled with people who are often self-centered jerks, criminally psychotic, super violent, or a combination of all three, Yuugi remains continuously--and exceptionally--kind-hearted, selfless, and faithful throughout the entire series. He is self-sacrificing, the kind of person who puts other people before himself in almost every way: he hides his own feelings for the sake of others and is more than willing to endure loss, injury, and even death for his friends. (At one point in the series, he deliberately loses a life-or-death duel in order to save his best friend, and does not for a moment show regret for his seemingly imminent death. Instead, he spends what he believes are his last few seconds giving a very sweet and idealistic speech about their friendship. At another time, he comes very close to being burnt alive because he refuses to leave the Puzzle--and by extension, the other Yuugi--in a building that has caught fire. There are plenty more examples of him putting himself in danger for the sake of someone else, but those two are the most obvious.) His goodness sometimes has a redemptive effect on the people around him; his best friend, for example--a former delinquent named Jounouchi--admits that it was only after trying to repay some of Yuugi's kindness that he began to see any good in himself.

The second-most important characteristic of Yuugi's personality is his growth over the course of the series. In the beginning he's a weak, often cowardly, and constantly bullied little kid with no self-confidence to speak of. (He wants desperately to have close friends but instead of putting himself out there and trying to bond with people, he spends eight years attempting to solve a puzzle in hopes that it will ~magically~ make friends for him.) Over time, his relationships with his new friends and the discovery of another person living in his heart encourage him to take a harder look at himself and start facing his problems instead of running away from them. When he is still forced to rely on the other Yuugi or their friends for help, he gets frustrated and promises that one day he'll be strong enough to protect the people he cares about, strong enough not to lose to his other self. (His motivation to become stronger--protecting the people he treasures--is yet another example of his seemingly endless selflessness.) A second aspect of his growth over time is that he becomes a much more focused character for the duration of the series, far less carefree than he is initially. In the beginning of the series, he's a very simple guy who just wants to be light-hearted, play games (sooo many games), eat hamburgers, and hang out with his friends. Over time he loses chances to do those things, what with the 'constantly playing magical card games against vengeful crazies in order to unlock the memories of the three-thousand-year-old dead guy living in his heart' thing. Even so, he doesn't resent being chosen for the job, but rather embraces his destiny and strives not only to fulfill it, but to simultaneously change himself into the noble, reliable person he wants to be once it is fulfilled.

All that said. Despite being a categorically good person, Yuugi is not saccharine. He's kind of a pervert (evidenced by his reaction to the porn that Jounouchi lends him), and it's not beyond him to think a rude thought along the lines of 'What a weird guy…' or 'Grandpa's so old-fashioned!'. He is more than capable of being annoyed, suspicious, and/or angry. He just doesn't seem capable of actual malice. If he has the ability to help someone who needs to be helped, he will usually do so… even if that person was threatening to break his neck ten minutes ago. (This actual situation occurs in the manga--man dressed as a clown threatens to break Yuugi's neck and attempts to force him to play a super dangerous, life-threatening game; shortly afterward the room is on fire and Yuugi is teaching the clown how to stop, drop, and roll.)

A fairly post-series-specific personality trait is that he's also quite a bit more difficult to faze--chalk it up to the amount of life experience he's had in the past couple years. Certain things still get to him because he's an awkward teenage guy who still cares about other people way, way more than he should, but when it comes to weird supernatural/magical-type stuff happening his reaction is more along the lines of, "... Again? Okay well, let's get this figured out." He also has a certain zest for life that is about as selfish as Yuugi can ever be, as he is determined to be more of his own main character and live his own story with no more regrets. Because of this, it might seem at times that he's reverted back to the carefree person he was before who just wants to play games eat burgers enjoy life to the fullest, but instead of the private insecurities he had before, he now carries a certain burden and loss of innocence due to the experiences he shared with his other self. Basically he may act like a kid but he's really not a kid anymore.

Abilities: He kicks ass at games and is very compassionate, but that's because he's a shonen protagonist and has nothing to do with superpowers. All his abilities are 100% regular human stuff.

SAMPLES;
First Person: [Unlike most times Yuugi has to use his webcam to get in touch with large groups of people, he doesn't seem even a little awkward or overly aware of the camera at the moment. Just the opposite in fact--viewers this evening are treated with a shot of him sitting casually at his desk and giving the screen a comfortable grin.]

Hey guys, just wanted to remind everybody that we're having a tournament tomorrow at the shop! The rules have been posted for a while but if you have any questions just text me or Atem about it. Registration's open until the first round starts at ten.

Oh-! [He gives the camera a wink--not a saucy wink or anything because this is Yuugi Mutou we're talking about here. More like an over-excited loser teenager about to share a secret.] There'll be plenty of cool prizes for the winners! We're going to have a raffle, too, so even if you don't play--[WHY WOULDN'T YOU, THOUGH]--you could still win a prize just for showing up. [And buying a booster pack from the store, but he forgets to mention that part right now.]

Let's see, uh-- [He drops back a little from the camera and glances away, losing some steam as he tries to remember if there was anything else he should say. Since he's sort of advertising for the shop, it probably would have been better to write all this down or something before starting the video buuuut he'd let himself get carried away by his own excitement.]

I think that's it.... Anyway, make sure you stop by and check it out!

[He finishes by flashing another little grin and a thumbs up.]

Do your best and good luck!
